Comprehensive Drone Pilot Training
At Appalachian UAV Academy, we provide an industry-leading drone education and training experience for individuals seeking to become certified commercial drone pilots. Our comprehensive “Drone Operations” courses cover everything from basic flight techniques to advanced aerial photography, videography, and mission planning. Upon successful completion, students earn certification that meets or exceeds National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requirements.
Led by experienced instructors, our programs are designed to build your technical knowledge and hands-on skills with access to state-of-the-art facilities—including a full drone flight simulator and a fleet of training drones. Whether you're just beginning or looking to refine your expertise, we offer tailored programs to fit every skill level.
Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete our drone pilot programs at Appalachian UAV Academy, students must meet the following criteria:
Full Attendance & Coursework Completion
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes and complete every assignment and module to build a strong foundation in drone piloting principles and practices.
Capstone Project Completion
Each student must successfully complete a final capstone project, showcasing their ability to operate drones proficiently and apply their skills in a real-world scenario, including safety and mission planning.
Exam Performance Standards
A minimum score of 80% is required on all written and hands-on exams to ensure a thorough understanding of flight operations, safety regulations, and technical skills.
FAA Certification Compliance
Graduates must meet all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for commercial drone pilots, including passing the Part 107 knowledge test and adhering to current regulations.
These standards ensure that every graduate leaves our program fully prepared for a successful career in unmanned aerial systems.

After Hours
Learning doesn’t stop when class ends. At Appalachian UAV Academy, we offer after-hours access to select training resources, including our drone simulator lab and outdoor flight practice areas (weather permitting). These extended opportunities allow students to refine their skills, explore personal drone projects, or collaborate with classmates in a relaxed, supportive environment. Our instructors are often available for additional guidance, and we frequently host evening workshops and guest speaker events to keep you engaged and inspired outside of standard training hours.
